One of the Empire's Finest ~ Phyllis Schulte

For anyone who has had the pleasure of trooping with TK 1951, you know what an awesome woman she is! However as the years go by, she surpasses her own generousity and continues to leave the rest of us wondering how she does it.
On August 8th, Schulte organized the MWG's appearance at Camp Quality held in Frankfort, IL. This organization gives those children who are battling cancer a chance to be kids who are just having fun. With the help of fellow Legion members and Hasbro/Milton Bradley, toys were donated so each child would have something to take home. Members of the MWG and Bloodfin Garrison organized a charity raffle at a local restaurant to raise money to purchase gift cards for the older kids (over $800 was raised to purchase the gift cards!!)
Take a moment and read the mission report for Camp Quality. Here one will read of the unselfish nature of volunteers who came together from all walks of life for one purpose - to put a smile on a child's face. Many thanks to all those who donated toys and time to make this happen!
It is no surprise that Phyllis Schulte is August Legion Trooper of the Month as well as MWG Trooper of the Month. She is a wonderful example of what the Legion is all about!!

April Trooper of the Month

Congratulations to Jim 'marstoq' DeJan TI3853 for April Trooper of the Month. 2008 marks the third year in a row that the 501st Legion teamed with Midwest Base for Peoria's Prairie Air Show. This year, the troops occupied a table both days and tattooed nearly 800 children! Many thanks goes to Jim and his wife Emily for their continued support of our Legion. The work they do does not go unnoticed because the grins from the tattooed kids say it all! Thanks!

Server Move status

You might notice that the http://www.midwestgarrison.com now redirects to http://www.midwestgarrison.org. This is part of the server move and nothing to worry about. There are some things on the old server that require some work to get fully migrated. In the meantime you can use http://www.midwestgarrison.org. The forums are have been synced between servers, so nothing should be missing.

The site has been moved over to a new server and eventually the midwestgarrison.com domain will point to this server. In the mean time please let me know if there are any issues at ed<at>litmusgreen.com.

Thanks!

Server Move

We will be changing servers soon. There may be some hiccups in the move, but I will try and keep things running with out too many disruptions. The forums will be taken offline at some point to migrate the database to the new server.

The new site is up and running at http://midwestgarrison.org, but the forums are not in sync with midwestgarrison.com yet.

Stay tuned for updates!

Mokena Public Library's "All Things Star Wars" Event

Once again, Phyllis Schulte TK 1951 showed the true spirit of the Legion when she coordinated various visits to the Mokena Public Library. Her first visits she handled solo but on the last night, she had Lord Vader (Patrick Engle SL6312) along with newlywed Tie Pilots (Ed and Cherri Kryzowski) show up to really dazzle the kids. From the looks of the parents waiting for photos and the looks on the childrens' faces, the event was a success! The mission report can be read here!

Out of This World

On February 16th, members of the MWG and Rebel Legion assembled in WI for the OshKosh Public Museum's "Out of This World" exhibit. Since the exhibit spans several decades worth of science-fiction movies, it was no surprise to see the numerous Star Wars original trilogy pieces. Some of the most impressive pieces include a full set of Darth Vader armor; Luke's x-wing pilot jumpsuit, severed hand, and lightsaber from ESB. Many rounds of thanks to Dan Wiechman TK533 and his brothers and sisters in the Legion for all their hard work and long hours of trooping. Wiechman credits his fellow troops along with the friendly, knowledgeable museum staff for the success event.
